-- A Good Man Gone -- Esq. A. J. Myers, a prominent figure of Worthington tp. and of Richland county, yielded up all there was of earth and went home to his Maker last Saturday morning, about 2 a.m., after a very long and lingering siege of lung trouble, being perfectly rational and patient to the very last. The funeral of this noble man, whose life is well worthy emulation by the very large concourse of sympathizing friends in attendance who wished to show him homage, took place on Tuesday, April 4, 1893, at 11 a.m., from the family residence, under the auspices of Lucullus Lodge, No 121, K. of P., of which deceased was a charter member, assisted by Sturges Lodge, No. 357, I.O.O.F. and Samuel Bell Post, No. 536, Department of Ohio, G.A.R., and accompanied by a large number of brothers from abroad belonging to above orders. The very neat casket and its honored remains were borne to the M. P. Church with the highest honors at the command of these noble orders, where a most fitting funeral sermon was delivered over the remains by Rev. Hissey, of Zanesville. At the close of which Attorney L. C. Mengert, of Mansfield, made a few short and very eulogistic remarks. This latter, we believe, was in keeping with a particular request of the deceased before he died. After the services at the church had been gone through with the funeral cortege was again taken up, when the remains were borne to the cemetery on the hill where they were given a last earthly home by the orders named. Adam Jemison Myers was born in Jefferson tp., Oct. 6, 1841. He enlisted at Bellville, Sept. 1, 1861, as a private in Co. H, 59th New York Voluntary Infantry. He was afterward made corporal, and April 11, 1864, he was transferred to Co. A, 14th Reg., Veteran Reserve Corps. He was a faithful soldier and quit the army with an honorable discharge. At the time of his death he was Justice of the Peace and had been for several years. He will be greatly missed by the community in which he lived. -- Butler. After a lingering illness from lung trouble, A.J. Myers departed this life early Saturday morning. The deceased was a popular citizen in the village, having been justice of the peace and in numerous other township offices. He was a stone mason by trade, and an excellent workman. He served in the late war, and was a pensioned veteran and a member of Samuel Bell Post. In secret organizations he was active, and at the time of his death was identified with the K. of P. Lodge and I.O.O.F. of this place. He was a member of the M.P. church, and took an active part in all the benevolent enterprises of the town. The funeral ceremony took place on Tuesday noon, and was very largely attended. Several hundred people representing home and visiting orders were in the procession. Twelve pall-bearers, six active, six honorary, took charge of the casket. Hon. Jno. C. Burns and Samuel J. Ottinger, of Mansfield, were among these. Rev. Hissey, of Zanesville, preached the sermon. The interment took place in the village cemetery. A wife, son and two grand-children are left to mourn the loss of a kind protector and parent. -- Butler. Adam Jamison Myers, after a long spell of sickness, died at his home on Union street at 2 o'clock Saturday morning. He was born in Jefferson township, Richland county, Ohio, October 6th, 1841. He was a soldier in the late war. He enlisted in Company H, New York Volunteer Infantry, at Bellville, Ohio, September 1, 1861, and served for some time, when he was afterwards made corporal. He was then transferred, April 11, 1864, to Company A, 14th Regiment, Veteran Reserve corps. He was wounded, sick, and taken prisoner while in the army. In December, 1862, he came home on a furlough and remained about three months, when he returned to the army until he was discharged at Washington, D. C., November 17, 1865. He served in the army four years and four months. He was married to Sarah E. Andrews, daughter of Thomas B. and Marilla Andrews, in Worthington township, Nov.20, 1864. Two children were born to them, Miller Mandeville and Thomas B. He has lived in this place many years and was a stone mason by trade. He was a member of the Sam Bell Post, No. 536, G.A.R., and K. of P. No. 121, and I.O.O.F. He was buried Tuesday at 12 o'clock by the three above-named orders. It was one of the largest funerals ever in this place. The sermon was preached in the M.P. church by Rev. Hissey, of Zanesville. Submitted by Lynnea. Myers, aged 52, of Worthington township, well known throughout the southern part of the county, died at his home at 2 o'clock this morning, of consumption, from which he had been suffering for some time. The deceased was born in the southern part of the county, where he has since lived and was one of the highly respected gentlemen of that section. He served his country during the war and was at the time of his death a prominent member of the G.A.R. He wa also a member of the local Odd Fellow and K.P. lodges. 'Squire Myers has for the past ten years served his neighbors as Justice of the Peace. He was always an ardent Democrat and took great interest in local and county politics. The deceased leaves a wife and one son, Thomas. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m., under the auspices of the K.P. lodge. [Richland Shield & Banner: 08 April 1893]

Myers, Cassius M.C. -- Died, on Tuesday, the 17th. inst., of diphtheria, Cassius M.C., son of Mr. S.H. and Maria Myers, in his 13th. year. The deceased was a bright, intelligent lad, whose good qualities endeared him to all. The pride and joy of his parents, death snatched him suddenly from their arms. Affliction is the lot of mortals; but however keen its pangs may be it has its use. Suffering form it we realize perfectly the nothingness and vanity of worldly matters, and our hearts are elevated involuntarily to that Being who while he inflicts, loves and consoles us. Whatever Christian parents suffer in having their dear ones taken from them, they can still say: "The Lord hath given; the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." Myers, Florence -- Bellville. Florence, the 2-year-old daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John Myers, east of Bellville, died Sunday. Services were held at the residence Monday at 3 p.m., conducted by Rev. A.A. Hundley. Interment in the Bellville Cemetery. [Bellville Messenger: 11 May 1900]
Myers, John -- Died, John Myers, a well known resident of Shelby, died at his home at 4 o'clock this morning. The deceased leaves a wife and two children. He was about 65 years of age and sustained a number of strokes of paralysis which disease caused death this morning. Mr. Myers was the assessor for precinct B, of Sharon Township, this spring. Myers, John D. -- John D. Myers, aged 86 years, died Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Mt. Bethel. The deceased was a well known and respected resident of his community. He is survived by two children, William Myers, of Shelby, and Mrs. Frank Kuhn, of Shelby. The funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. The burial will be at Mt. Bethel. Myers, John S. -- John S. Myers, an old resident of Worthington Township, residing about one and a half miles south of Independence, retired to his bed last Sunday night feeling as well as usual. His aged wife, on arising and striking a light Monday morning, discovered that her husband's spirit had gone during the night to a better world than this. Myers, Mrs. Elias -- The wife of Elias Myers died Monday morning at Crestline. Both Mr. and Mrs. Myers have lived in this city, both being favorably known to the entire community. The remains of Mrs. Myers arrived on the 12:30 train, on the P.F.W. & C. Tuesday. Mr. Dewitt, who keeps the St. Cloud hotel near the B. & O. depot, is the father of the deceased. Myers, Sarah -- Died, at her residence six miles north of the city, April 3d., Mrs. Sarah Myers, aged 81 years, 3 months and 2 days. Mrs. Myers was born in Huntingdon County, Pa. Her home in youth was in Westmoreland County, Pa., where she was married to her late husband who died sixteen years ago. In the 26th. year of her age she came with her husband to Ohio and first settled in the eastern part of the county, near the Blackfork, where they lived eight years. They afterwards moved to her late residence, and during the long period of forty-seven years remained at the same place. she was the mother of nine children, five of whom are living and mourn her loss. Since the death of her daughter, Mrs. Laird, she has lamented the separation, but has enjoyed good health until her recent sickness. After a short, but very painful illness, she died on last Thursday morning. In her death we have lost another of our pioneers who was thoroughly conversant with the early history of our county; her children a kind mother and the community one who was a good neighbor, and who was highly respected by all. She retained her mental powers well in old age, and was conscious to the last moments of her life. An expression given near the hour of death indicates upon whom she relied for help. She desired to change her position in bed. A relation asked her, "Which way shall I turn you?" "With my face toward Heaven", was her reply. Though she lived forty-seven years in one place, she desired to "go home". The funeral took place on Friday and was attended by deeply sympathizing relatives and friends. Myers, Susanna -- Mrs. Susanna Myers, wife of John P. Myers, deceased, died at the residence of her son-in-law, J.R. Hooker at 2 o'clock p.m., November 6th., aged 79 years. The funeral will take place from her lat home, 51 South Main Street, at 2:30 o'clock p.m., Friday. Services at the house, to which friends and acquaintances are invited. Burial private. Mrs. Myers leaves three sons and a daughter, viz.: Ira and Alfred, of Montana, Samuel, of New Mexico, and Mrs. Hooker. [Mansfield Herald: 07 March 1889]
